How to report a fake TikTok account pretending to be you

Updated 16 Oct 2026

To report a fake TikTok account, open the profile, tap the Share icon or “…” in the top right, then Report, Report account, and choose Impersonation (or “Pretending to be someone”). Save evidence first, then warn your community with a video. Step-by-step guide below.

Why TikTok impersonation is so common

On TikTok, one video can reach thousands of people who don’t know you yet. Impersonators exploit that: they repost your videos, pick a username almost identical to yours (an extra dot, underscore or letter) and contact people who comment.

  • Fake lives: replaying your old videos as a “live” to collect gifts.
  • Fake giveaways in comments: “You won, message me on WhatsApp.”
  • Fake shop: your products, with a payment number that isn’t yours.
  • Fake “new account”: “My account got banned, follow me here.”

Step 1: save the evidence

  1. Copy the profile link: Share icon on the profile, then Copy link.
  2. Write down the exact @username, character by character. Copycats rely on tiny differences.
  3. Screenshot the profile, a few copied videos (with dates if visible) and comments or DMs sent to your followers.
  4. Screen-record any fake live you come across.
  5. Note any WhatsApp or payment numbers being promoted.

Step 2: report the account in the app

  1. Open the fake profile.
  2. Tap the Share (arrow) icon or “…” in the top right.
  3. Tap Report, then Report account.
  4. Choose Impersonation or “Pretending to be someone”.
  5. Say who is being impersonated: Me or another person or business, then submit.

You can also report copied videos individually (long-press the video or use the Share icon, then Report) and a live in progress from the live’s menu.

If you don’t have an account, or the impersonator blocked you, TikTok offers an impersonation report form in its Help Center at support.tiktok.com: search for “impersonation”. It may ask for the account link and proof of identity. For a registered trademark or videos you own, there are intellectual property forms too.

TikTok changes its menus often; if a label looks different, the official Help Center is the reference.

Step 3: warn your community where they watch you

TikTok audiences follow you through video more than text, so use both:

  1. Record a short video to camera: “Heads up, this account is not me. My only account is @yourname. I never ask for money, in DMs or on live.”
  2. Pin that video to the top of your profile.
  3. Reply to suspicious comments under your videos (“That’s not me, don’t pay”) and delete those pointing to the fake account.
  4. Mention it on your lives if you go live.
  5. Secure your account: unique password and 2-step verification in your security settings.

If followers paid the impersonator, they should contact their mobile money provider or bank quickly with the reference, then file a police report. See someone is impersonating me online.

How My Official Links helps on TikTok

On TikTok, people often discover the copy before the original. They need an easy way to check.

  • Your official link gathers your real TikTok, real WhatsApp, other socials, promotions and address. Put it in your TikTok bio (depending on your account type and country, the link may be clickable or simply written out).
  • Certification (blue badge) checks that your TikTok bio shows that link, that your phone numbers are yours (code by WhatsApp or by call), that your emails are yours and that your legal name matches your national ID or tax number. Learn about certification.
  • The free Check an account tool: a follower pastes a TikTok link or @username and sees whether it belongs to a certified page. Mention it in your warning video.
  • If someone copies your brand on My Official Links itself, use Report impersonation.

My Official Links is not affiliated with TikTok and can’t remove TikTok accounts. Create your page: 14-day free trial, no credit card.

What to do right now: checklist

  1. Copy the fake account’s link and exact @username.
  2. Screenshot the profile, copied videos, comments and DMs.
  3. Report: Report account → Impersonation → Me.
  4. Also report copied videos and fake lives.
  5. Post and pin a warning video.
  6. Turn on 2-step verification.
  7. Put your official link in your bio and get it certified.

Frequently asked questions

Will TikTok remove the fake account?

It isn’t guaranteed: TikTok reviews each report under its own rules. Choosing impersonation, reporting as the person being copied and providing ID if asked all improve your chances.

The fake account’s username is almost identical to mine. Is that impersonation?

If it uses your name, photo or videos to make people think it is you, yes. A clearly labelled fan account is treated differently. Report it as impersonation and explain the resemblance.

A fake account is going live with my videos. What should I do?

Report the live from its menu while it is running, screen-record it as evidence, then report the whole account for impersonation. Tell your community you are not hosting that live.

I don’t have a TikTok account. Can I still report?

Usually yes, through the impersonation report form in the official Help Center at support.tiktok.com. Have the fake account’s link and proof of identity ready.

How can my followers check my real TikTok account?

Put one official link in your bio. With My Official Links certification, they can paste your TikTok link or @username into the Check an account tool.

One official link, verified.

Gather your real accounts on one page in your name and get it certified: your customers know where to find you, and impostors lose their credibility.
