Hacked TikTok account: how to recover and secure it

Updated 16 Oct 2026

If your TikTok account has been hacked, first try to reset your password with “Forgot password?” on the login screen, by email or SMS. If the hacker changed those details, contact support from the app (the “Report a problem” section), explain that your account was hacked and gather proof that it is yours. Meanwhile, warn your followers through another channel.

Signs your TikTok account was hacked

  • You are logged out and your password no longer works.
  • You receive an email or SMS from TikTok about a login or change you did not make.
  • Your username, profile photo or bio has changed.
  • Videos were posted or deleted, or lives started without you.
  • Your followers receive messages about gifts, investments or suspicious links.

Step 1: reset your password

  1. Open the TikTok app and go to the login screen.
  2. Choose to log in with phone or email, then tap “Forgot password?”.
  3. Enter the phone number or email linked to your account and type in the code you receive.
  4. Choose a new password: long, and never used anywhere else.

If you used Google, Facebook or Apple to log in to TikTok, secure that account first: it may be how the hacker got in.

TikTok’s screens change regularly. If a menu does not match exactly, the official TikTok Help Center is the reference.

Step 2: contact TikTok support if you are locked out

If the hacker changed your email and phone number, the reset will not work. You then need to contact TikTok:

  1. From the app (even without being logged in to your account), look for login help on the login screen, or log in to another account and go to Profile, menu, Settings and privacy, Report a problem.
  2. Pick the account-related category (login, hacked account) and say you still need help.
  3. Explain the situation clearly: your current and previous username, the approximate date of the hack, and the email and phone number you used.
  4. Gather proof: screenshots of your profile, roughly when the account was created, the device you used, videos you posted and can describe precisely.
  5. Watch your inbox: TikTok may reply by email with verification questions.

Reply quickly and precisely. Response times vary and recovery is never guaranteed, but a clear case helps a lot.

Step 3: secure your account after recovery

Go to Profile, menu, Settings and privacy, then Security (the exact name may vary):

  1. Turn on 2-step verification with at least two methods (SMS, email, authenticator app).
  2. Review logged-in devices and remove any you do not recognise.
  3. Check the email and phone number on the account under “Account” or “Account information”.
  4. Restore your username, bio and photo, and delete anything the hacker posted.
  5. Check your monetisation tools if you have any (gifts, payouts) and your payout details.

Do this right now: checklist

  • Try “Forgot password?” with your email and phone number.
  • Secure your email and any Google, Facebook or Apple account used to log in.
  • Contact support via “Report a problem” if the reset fails.
  • Gather proof that the account belongs to you.
  • Warn your followers on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and your official page: “My TikTok has been hacked, ignore any message in my name.”
  • Ask a few loyal followers to report the account from the profile’s share button.
  • Ignore strangers offering to “unlock” your account for money.

Prevent another hack

  • 2-step verification always on, with an up-to-date recovery email and phone number.
  • Beware of fake “TikTok” messages: “your account received a warning”, “you have been selected for monetisation”, “get the verified badge”. They lead to pages that steal your login details. TikTok will never ask for your password or a code in a message.
  • Never share a verification code, even with a brand offering a collaboration.
  • Do not use “more views” apps or tools that ask for your password.
  • A unique password for TikTok, different from your email password.

How My Official Links helps during a hack

On TikTok, your audience often follows you from your videos without knowing your other accounts. If your account is hacked, they may believe whatever the hacker posts.

With My Official Links, you have one official link that lists your real accounts and WhatsApp numbers, and it stays under your control. Post an alert on it and share it on your other networks: your followers know right away where to find you.

If your page is certified, your verified accounts carry your page link in their bio, and your followers can paste a TikTok link or @username into Check an account. Let our team know too via the report form. If you remove a verified account from your page, the certification may be paused until it is verified again: a badge should never vouch for a hacked account.

My Official Links is not affiliated with TikTok and cannot recover your account for you. If a fake account is copying you, read how to report a fake TikTok account.

Frequently asked questions

How do I recover my TikTok if the hacker changed my email and phone number?

Contact support from the app via Report a problem, explain that your account was hacked and provide as much proof as you can: old login details, screenshots, the device you used, content you posted. Recovery is not guaranteed.

How long does TikTok support take to reply?

It varies from a few days to longer. Keep an eye on your inbox, including spam, and answer verification questions quickly.

Will I lose my followers and videos?

If you recover your account, your followers stay with it. Videos deleted by the hacker may be lost for good, so keep a copy of your important content.

How do I stop my TikTok from being hacked again?

Turn on 2-step verification, keep your email and phone number up to date, use a unique password and never share a code you receive by SMS or email.

How do my followers know which account is the real one?

Give them your official link. With a certified My Official Links page, they can check a TikTok link or @username with the free Check an account tool.

One official link, verified.

Gather your real accounts on one page in your name and get it certified: your customers know where to find you, and impostors lose their credibility.
